A Letter From Cousin Buck
Keith Olbermann's special comments about lying were right on the mark. The piece brings clear focus to what the president and vice-president have proven to be - arrogant, condescending, defiant, and unwilling to acknowledge even the slightest responsibility for the debacle they created and continue to perpetuate in Iraq .
During these troubled times our leaders need to depend on the respect and support of the nation. However, in America this is a two-way street. The grim reality is that the administration has lost the support of the majority because it has done nothing to pay it back in return. Indeed, it has become increasingly difficult to respect the leadership of men who routinely mock constructive critics and question the patriotism of those with differing views - all while insulting the intelligence of the American people whose rights they claim to protect.
Unfortunately, the president and vice-president will likely ignore Olbermann's plea to retain our country's principles with the same disdain with which they dismiss anyone else who disagrees with them. However, the American people can see the proverbial elephant in the corner of our collective living room - and will eventually push it out through our resolve, through our truth, and through our votes. The transcript of Keith's comments should be required reading for all who visit the polls in November, and again in 2008.
